The group is advises private individuals, other professional advisors, lawyers and others to address needs in this sector.

Our Work:

The Charities, Non-Profits and NGOs group at HFN provides advice to a diverse range of non-profit entities registered in Israel (such as charitable companies, endowments and Amutot) and to the full range of entrepreneurs and founders of non-profit entities in Israel, many of them foreign citizens and 501(c)(3) organisations that wish to be active in Israel. The group provides full legal support to such entities, amongst them charities, religious institutions and colleges, including assistance in registering with regulatory and tax authorities and advising on day-to-day operations and the role of the officers of the organisation.

The group is adept at finding creative solutions to the problems facing these organisations as part of their activities, including providing advice during in-depth inquiries from the relevant authorities in Israel, restructuring and winding down.

Recent matters include:

• Acting for a U.S. church in establishing an Israeli charitable company as a subsidiary
• Acting for a Jersey Trust in establishing an Israeli charitable company as a subsidiary
• Advising on the transfer of operations of an Israeli charity to a newly incorporated special purpose charity
• Acting as liquidators in a complex charity liquidation
• Advising a family foundation on its investment policy and proper management of the foundation
• Advising a major Israeli charity on the worldwide reorganisation of operations of the family of charities of which it is a part
• Advising on the reorganisation of the board of trustees and management of a college in Israel
